Having decided upon my success in this year's swimathon that I would take part in the Great North Swim, I felt it best that we should take a look and see what I would be letting myself in for. With that in mind, we decided to take a trip to the Lake District (the venue for the Great North Swim) and check out the action on Windemere.

Swimming a one-mile stretch along the bank of Windemere, in waters around 15°C, 6000 swimmers took part in this years contest.

There was an amazing atmosphere and we couldn't have chosen a better day with nicer weather to go and watch.

It was my first trip to the Lake District and it's a gorgeous place. It took us about an hour and three quarters to get there which was great, we took the ferry to the other end of the lake and watched the swimmers come back.

Now that I've seen people successfully do the challenge and having spoken to entrants, I'm definitely going to take part in next years Great North Swim.

Make sure you come back to help me raise money for my challenge.
